What is the Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Aware Leadership?

The Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Aware Leadership is an advanced qualification for the designated Mental Health Lead in the school. While it is a standalone qualification, it is also fully integrated with our fully funded DfE Approved Senior Mental Health Lead Training (See https://teachwellall.samcart.com/products/senior-mental-health-lead-training). This means that the two-day Senior Mental Health Lead training, followed by 6-month supervision as you build a culture of whole school mental health, makes a major contribution to the Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Aware Leadership. You will submit a portfolio for assessment, based on the work you do on the Senior Mental Health Lead course.

If you are unfamiliar with what Levels mean in adult qualifications, a Level 4 is equivalent in difficulty to A-Level.

What experience does Teach Well Toolkit have of delivering training in schools?

We are qualified teachers with over 60 years combined experience in primary and secondary education and have substantial experience in leading whole-school change and delivering training.

We also have qualifications in Mental Health, First Aid for Mental Health, Bereavement Counselling and Wellbeing Coaching. We are therefore ideally placed to deliver the Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Aware Leadership. Teach Well Toolkit is a registered centre with Open Awards and we specialise in education qualifications for school staff. We are a DfE Approved Provider of Senior Mental Health Lead Training. We are also both Fellows of the Chartered College of Teaching.

What does submitting a portfolio for assessment involve?

You will cover five areas of mental health leadership as you carry out your role as a Senior Mental Health Lead. Each area is allocated a number of 'credits', to count towards a total of 17 credits to gain the Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Aware Leadership.

1) Recognising common mental health difficulties in others (4 credits).

2) Researching a mental health leadership topic (6 credits).

3) Supporting wellbeing in your own organisation (3 credits).

4) Reflecting on your role in contributing towards the mental health of others (4 credits).

5) Meeting the responsibilities placed on an educational leader (3 credits).

Researching a mental health leadership topic is the area that will require a contribution additional to your role and will be largely self-study. We will provide resources and support to help you with this.
